Egy orvosi életút pillanatnyi látlelete

Dr. Törzsök Péter urológus és andrológus szakorvos, a Széchenyi István Egyetem Egészség- és Sporttudományi Karának habilitált egyetemi docense, nemzetközi kapcsolatokért felelős dékánhelyettese részesült idén a Hegedűs Gyula Tudományos Ösztöndíjban. Az Universitas-Győr Alapítvány kuratóriumának döntése értelmében az elismerést az egyetem legtehetségesebb, legrátermettebb, 45 év alatti életkorú oktatói, kutatói kaphatják – ezzel is segítve a tudományos tevékenységük, vezető oktatóvá válásuk folyamatát és elmélyítését. Az orvosi életút „leletének” elkészítését azonban korántsem csupán a díj indokolta – a személyére vonatkozó példaértékű szakmai és emberi tényezők „családi hagyományként” is definiálhatóak.

Történetünket ott kezdjük, ahol a múlt század legelején nyitotta meg fűszerkereskedését Kreszta Ferenc Jenő. A három utcára néző Kreszta-ház a keskeny és magas, klasszicista homlokzatával, kidomborodó sarkaival Győr belvárosának egyik legjellegzetesebb épületének számít. Számunkra azonban most nem is a ház a fontos, hanem annak egyik volt lakója. Kreszta Karolinnak hívták ugyanis dr. Törzsök Péter dédnagymamáját. – Büszke vagyok az őseimre, jó érzés tudni, hogy hajdanán a felmenőimé volt a Kreszta-ház. Ezzel összefüggésben persze nem lehetnek személyes élményeim, nem úgy, mint például a nagymamámmal kapcsolatban, aki a győri Kazinczy Ferenc Gimnáziumban tanította a diákokat angol és német nyelvre. 6 éves koromban nála vettem az első németóráimat. Sajnos, rövid ideig élvezhettem a tanítását, mert nem sokkal ezután meghalt. Édesanyám gyógyszerészként dolgozik, míg a tavaly év végén elhunyt édesapám urológus főorvosként vált ismertté. Négyen vagyunk testvérek. Bátyám a Széchenyi István Egyetemen kezdte építész tanulmányait, ám végül Middlesbrough-ban diplomázott képalkotó és képfeldolgozó informatikusként. Jelenleg orvosinformatikával foglalkozik. Az idősebb húgom patológus, a fiatalabb lánytestvérem édesanyám példáját követve gyógyszerészként tevékenykedik.

Pétertől megtudjuk azt is, hogy a Győr-Ménfőcsanakhoz köthető gyermekkoráért a mai napig hálás a szüleinek, akik többek között a sport és a zene szeretetére nevelték. – Nyelveket tanultunk, futottunk, kajakoztunk, zongoráztunk. Hasonló szellemiségben szeretném majd én is nevelni a gyerekeimet. A sport az egészséges életmód nélkülözhetetlen része, a zene pedig megnyugvást ad a rohanó tempóban, ráadásul mások szórakoztatására is szolgálhat. Ezt magam is megtapasztaltam, miután 14 éves koromban gitározni kezdtem, s a gimnáziumi társaimmal alakított zenekarral mintegy 300 fellépésen szerepeltem. A Semmelweis Egyetemig vezető „tanulmányút” a csanaki általános iskolában kezdődött, ahová hat évig járt. Majd a bátyjával egy időben a Révai Miklós Gimnáziumba „igazolt”, ahol ugyancsak hat esztendőt töltött. S bár édesapja, dr. Törzsök Ferenc sohasem erőltette rá az orvosi pályát, sosem merült fel benne más. – Ma is ugyanezt választanám, mert nagyon boldog vagyok a munkámban, a nehéz pillanatok ellenére is. A SOTE harmadévese voltam, amikor a TDK kapcsán urológiai és patológiai közös témával, a húgyhólyagdaganatokkal kezdtem foglalkozni. A szakmámban nagyon tetszik az, hogy az operatív része mellett olyan szelete is van, amely gondolkozásra ösztönözve komolyabb tudást is igényel. Amíg át nem éltem, ezt nem is sejtettem, mivel édesapám – bár otthonról is rendszeresen érdeklődött betegei állapota iránt – valójában soha nem hozta haza a munkáját. Nagyon becsültem benne, hogy ehelyett a családdal foglalkozott, s hogy közéleti tevékenységként Rába-túrákat szervezett, részönkormányzati képviselőként dolgozott, helyi kiadványok elkészítésében segédkezett, s még az egyházközségben is aktív volt. Édesanyám támogatása nélkül mindez nehezen ment volna, főként azt követően, hogy édesapám 37 évesen osztályvezető főorvos lett. Hogy ez mennyire „kemény dió” lehetett, azt abból is sejtem, hogy bár már kicsit idősebb vagyok, ha most nekem egy ekkora osztályt kellene vinnem… Tiszteltem ezért, meg aztán amiatt is, hogy amikor kicsit belefáradt az egészbe, 25 éves vezetői múlttal a háta mögött, de még a nyugdíjazása előtt teret adott a fiatalabb korosztálynak. Így került Győrbe a jelenlegi főnököm, dr. Szepesváry Zsolt Jenő, akinek nagyon hálás vagyok azért, hogy a laparoszkópiát ide hozta, így már ott tartunk, hogy – a győri egyetemnek is köszönhetően – immáron robotsebészet is van nálunk.

A beszélgetés során óhatatlanul is felmerül, Péter vajon miként élte meg, hogy a neves orvosi szaktekintélynek számító szülő nyomdokaiba lépett. – Frusztrációt nem okozott bennem, egyébként is kicsit más karrier az enyém, már csak a lehetőségek miatt is. Ami közös többek között, hogy ő is töltött időt Németországban, igaz csak egy rövidebb szakmai tanulmányút erejéig. Együtt Győrött csak néhány hónapig dolgoztunk, ő már nyugdíjasként segítette az osztály munkáját, amikor kezdtem a Petz-kórházban. Említettem, hogy a családban soha nem volt téma a munkája, ám amikor szakmabeli lettem, onnantól nagyon sokat beszélgettünk nehéz orvosi esetekről. Szakmai féltékenység nélkül támogatott, rengeteget tanultam tőle – és tudom, hogy roppant büszke volt rám.

Ahogy azt már említettük, Törzsök Péter érdeklődése a Semmelweis Orvostudományi Egyetemen végzett tanulmányai alatt fordult az urológia felé, s hogy a tudományos diákköri munkája, illetve a PhD tanulmányai során a húgyhólyagdaganatok új prognosztikai és diagnosztikai markereinek vizsgálatával foglalkozott. – A szakorvosképzést aztán egyrészt a drezdai Urológiai Egyetemi Klinikán, másrészt a salzburgi Egyetemi Urológiai és Andrológiai Klinikán végeztem, valamint megszereztem a német és az európai urológus szakvizsgákat is. A Salzburgban töltött évek során a heretumor, pénisztumor és vesekő ambulancia, valamint a húgycsősebészeti és andrológiai ambulancia helyettese, majd vezetője voltam. Ezek mellett rendszeresen helyettesítettem az egyéb szakrendeléseken is, úgymint a neuro-urológia, a vesetumor, a hólyagtumor és a prosztatatumor szakrendeléseken. Salzburgban a szakvizsga után az endourológiai műtőért voltam felelős, ahol több mint 900 ureterorenoszkópiát végeztem. A húgycsőplasztikák, endourológiai sebészet mellett mikrosebészettel is foglalkoztam, közben egészségügyi menedzser végzettségre is szert tettem. A kutatási érdeklődésem a heretumorok új diagnoszikus és terápiás lehetőségei felé fordult, mely témában habilitációmat a salzburgi Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität-en védtem meg.

A hivatalos részt talán érdemes kiegészíteni: Drezda mellett annak idején az szólt, hogy a városban élt egy családi ismerős. A salzburgi váltást pedig az indokolta, hogy közelebb szeretett volna kerülni a családhoz, amelyet akkor egy váratlan tragédia sokkolt: a nagybátyja alig 56 évesen életét vesztette. – Az osztrák városban is nagyon jól éreztem magam, szakmailag is sokat tanultam, ám a szívem egyre inkább visszahúzott Győrbe. Szepesváry főorvos úr invitálására 2023 novemberében álltam munkába a Petz-kórházban, ezek után értem sikerrel a habilitációs eljárás végére Salzburgban, majd az andrológia szakvizsgát is letettem Drezdában.

A győri egyetemre is Szepesváry főorvos ajánlotta be. – Nagy megtiszteltetés számomra, hogy a Széchenyi István Egyetem docensi feladatai mellett az Egészség- és Sporttudományi Kar nemzetközi kapcsolatokért felelős dékánhelyettesi pozícióját betölthetem. Hálás vagyok az egyetemnek továbbá azért, hogy a bostoni Massachusetts Institute of Technology-vel közös Catalyst Europe programjában mentorként vehetek részt. Az oktatásból ugyancsak igyekszem kivenni a részem: az egészségügyi menedzserképzésben minőségmenedzsmentet tanítok, ugyanakkor több tantárgy kidolgozásában szerepet vállaltam. Igyekszem a kórház és az egyetem ideális kapcsolatát tovább erősíteni, az oktatási és kutatási együttműködést kölcsönös előnyök mentén kiszélesíteni, az egyetem hírnevét pedig nemzetközi téren öregbíteni és tovább vinni.

Példaként tekint a szüleire – az édesapjára szakmailag is –, ám több oktatójára is szívesen gondol vissza. Neveket azonban nem szívesen mondana, hátha valakit kihagyna a sorból. – Egyetlen kivételt mégis teszek, mert a belgyógyászatot oktató dr. Kádár János mondataira a mai napig emlékszem, sőt mi több, a tanácsát azóta is megfogadom. A Szent László Kórház orvosa úgy fogalmazott: mindig kritikus szemmel nézzük a kollégákat, s ha pozitívumot látunk, azt vegyük át, ám ha negatívat tapasztalunk, azt igyekezzük kerülni.

Amin biztosan nem fog változtatni: Győrben szeretne maradni és itt családot alapítani. – A barátnőmmel nemrég költöztünk össze a Belvárosban. A párom, dr. Szakács Bernadett jogászként dolgozik a Győr-Moson-Sopron Vármegyei Kormányhivatalban. Kapcsolata azonban neki is van a Széchenyi István Egyetemmel. Kibertechnológiai témában digitális gyermekvédelemmel foglalkozva PhD-zik, emellett az angol nyelvű egészségügyi menedzserképzésben jogi tárgyat is oktat.

Jelenlegi fő érdeklődési területei a heredaganat, a vesekövesség, az orvosi gazdaságtan, valamint a robotsebészet vizsgálata. Főként kőeltávolító és endoszkópos urológiai műtéteket végez.

KURZER BEFUND EINER MEDIZINISCHEN LAUFBAHN

Dr. Péter Törzsök, Facharzt für Urologie und Andrologie, habilitierter Dozent an der Fakultät für Gesundheits- und Sportwissenschaften der Széchenyi István Universität und stellvertretender Dekan für internationale Beziehungen, wurde dieses Jahr mit dem Hegedüs Gyula Wissenschaftsstipendium ausgezeichnet. Laut Entscheidung des Kuratoriums der Universitas-Győr-Stiftung sollen die talentiertesten Lehrenden und Forschenden der Universität unter 45 Jahren diese Auszeichnung erhalten, damit ihre wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit, ihr Werdegang als leitende Lehrende und die Vertiefung ihres Fachwissens gefördert werden. Es war jedoch keineswegs nur die Auszeichnung, die den „Befund” über seine medizinische Laufbahn begründet – die vorbildlichen beruflichen und menschlichen Eigenschaften, die ihn auszeichnen, können auch als „Familientradition” definiert werden.

Unsere Geschichte beginnt dort, wo Ferenc Jenő Kreszta zu Beginn des letzten Jahrhunderts sein Gewürzgeschäft eröffnete. Das Kreszta-Haus mit Blick auf drei Straßen ist mit seiner schmalen und hohen klassizistischen Fassade und seinen hervorstehenden Ecken eines der charakteristischsten Gebäude der Győrer Innenstadt. Für uns ist jedoch nicht das Haus wichtig, sondern eine seiner ehemaligen Bewohnerinnen: Karolin Kreszta war nämlich die Urgroßmutter von Dr. Péter Törzsök. „Ich bin stolz auf meine Vorfahren, es ist ein gutes Gefühl zu wissen, dass das Kreszta-Haus einst meinen Vorfahren gehörte. In dem Zusammenhang kann ich natürlich keine persönlichen Erfahrungen einbringen, anders als beispielsweise bei meiner Großmutter, die am Kazinczy Ferenc Gymnasium in Győr Englisch und Deutsch unterrichtete. Im Alter von sechs Jahren nahm ich bei ihr meinen ersten Deutschunterricht. Leider konnte ich nur kurz von ihrem Unterricht profitieren, da sie kurz darauf verstarb. Meine Mutter arbeitet als Apothekerin, während mein Vater, der Ende letzten Jahres verstorben ist, als Chefarzt für Urologie bekannt war. Wir sind vier Geschwister. Mein Bruder begann sein Architekturstudium an der Széchenyi István Universität, schloss aber schließlich in Middlesbrough sein Studium als Informatiker für Bildgebung und Bildverarbeitung ab. Derzeit beschäftigt er sich mit medizinischer Informatik. Meine ältere Schwester ist Pathologin, meine jüngere Schwester folgt dem Beispiel meiner Mutter und arbeitet als Apothekerin. Von Péter erfahren wir auch, dass er seinen Eltern bis heute dankbar ist für seine Kindheit in Győr-Ménfőcsanak, wo sie ihm unter anderem die Liebe zum Sport und zur Musik vermittelt haben. „Wir haben Sprachen gelernt, sind gelaufen, Kajak gefahren und haben Klavier gespielt. In ähnlicher Weise möchte ich auch meine Kinder erziehen. Sport ist ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil eines gesunden Lebensstils, Musik hingegen sorgt für Entspannung im hektischen Alltag und kann darüber hinaus auch andere begeistern. Das habe ich selbst erlebt, als ich mit 14 Jahren anfing, Gitarre zu spielen, mit Freunden vom Gymnasium eine Band gründete und bei etwa 300 Auftritten dabei war. Sein „Bildungsweg“ bis zur Semmelweis Universität begann in der Grundschule in Csanak, die er sechs Jahre lang besuchte. Dann wechselte er zusammen mit seinem Bruder ans Révai Miklós Gymnasium, wo er ebenfalls sechs Jahre verbrachte. Und obwohl sein Vater, Dr. Ferenc Törzsök, ihn nie zu einer medizinischen Laufbahn gedrängt hatte, kam für ihn nie etwas anderes in Frage. „Ich würde mich auch heute wieder dafür entscheiden, denn ich bin trotz aller Schwierigkeiten sehr glücklich in meinem Beruf. Ich war im dritten Jahr an der Semmelweis Universität, als ich im Rahmen des Wissenschaftlichen Studentenkreises (TDK) begann, mich mit einem gemeinsamen Thema aus Urologie und Pathologie zu beschäftigen, nämlich mit Blasentumoren. An meinem Beruf gefällt mir sehr, dass er neben dem operativen Teil auch einen Bereich umfasst, der zum Nachdenken anregt und fundierte Kenntnisse erfordert. Bevor ich das selbst erlebt habe, war mir das gar nicht bewusst, denn mein Vater hat zwar regelmäßig auch von zu Hause aus nach dem Befinden seiner Patienten gefragt, aber seine Arbeit nie mit nach Hause genommen. Ich schätzte es sehr, dass er sich stattdessen um die Familie kümmerte, Rába-Touren organisierte, als Vertreter der Kommunalverwaltung arbeitete, bei der Erstellung lokaler Publikationen half und sogar in der Kirchengemeinde aktiv war. Ohne die Unterstützung meiner Mutter wäre das alles nur schwer möglich gewesen, vor allem nachdem mein Vater im Alter von 37 Jahren zum Chefarzt befördert worden war. Was für eine „harte Nuss” das gewesen sein muss, kann ich mir vorstellen, obwohl ich schon etwas älter wäre, wenn ich jetzt eine so große Abteilung leiten müsste... Ich habe ihn dafür bewundert, und auch dafür, dass er mit 25 Jahren Führungserfahrung, aber noch vor seiner Pensionierung, Platz für die jüngere Generation gemacht hat. So kam mein derzeitiger Chef, Dr. Jenő Zsolt Szepesváry nach Győr, dem ich sehr dankbar bin, dass er die Laparoskopie hierher gebracht hat, sodass wir nun – auch dank der Universität Győr – sogar über Roboterchirurgie verfügen. Im Laufe des Gesprächs kam unweigerlich die Frage auf, wie es Péter wohl empfunden hat, in die Fußstapfen seines berühmten Vaters zu treten, der als namhafter medizinischer Experte galt. „Das hat mich nicht frustriert, außerdem verläuft mein Weg etwas anders, schon allein wegen der Möglichkeiten. Wir haben gemeinsam, dass auch er Zeit in Deutschland verbracht hat, allerdings nur für einen kürzeren Studienaufenthalt. Wir haben nur wenige Monate zusammen in Győr gearbeitet, er hat bereits als Rentner die Arbeit der Abteilung unterstützt, als ich im Petz-Krankenhaus angefangen habe. Ich habe bereits erwähnt, dass seine Arbeit in der Familie nie ein Thema war, aber als ich in seinem Berufsfeld tätig wurde, haben wir viel über schwierige medizinische Fälle gesprochen. Er hat mich ohne fachlichen Eigensinn unterstützt, ich habe viel von ihm gelernt – und ich weiß, dass er sehr stolz auf mich war. Wie bereits erwähnt, wandte sich Péter Törzsök während seines Studiums an der Semmelweis Universität der Urologie zu und beschäftigte sich im Rahmen seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit sowie seiner Doktorarbeit mit der Untersuchung neuer prognostischer und diagnostischer Marker für Blasentumore. – Meine Facharztausbildung absolvierte ich an der Universitätsklinik für Urologie in Dresden und an der Universitätsklinik für Urologie und Andrologie in Salzburg, wo ich auch die deutsche und europäische Facharztprüfung für Urologie ablegte. Während meiner Zeit in Salzburg war ich zunächst stellvertretender Leiter und später Leiter der Ambulanz für Hodentumore, Penistumore und Nierensteine sowie der Ambulanz für Urethrachirurgie und Andrologie. Darüber hinaus vertrat ich regelmäßig andere Facharztpraxen, beispielsweise in den Bereichen Neuro-Urologie, Nierentumore, Blasentumore und Prostatatumore. Nach meiner Facharztprüfung in Salzburg war ich für den endourologischen Operationssaal verantwortlich, wo ich mehr als 900 Ureteroskopien durchgeführt habe. Neben Harnröhrenplastiken und endourologischer Chirurgie beschäftigte ich mich auch mit Mikrochirurgie und erwarb nebenbei einen Abschluss als Gesundheitsmanager. Mein Forschungsinteresse galt neuen diagnostischen und therapeutischen Möglichkeiten bei Hodentumoren, zu diesem Thema habe ich meine Habilitation an der Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität in Salzburg verteidigt. Der offizielle Teil sollte vielleicht ergänzt werden: Für Dresden sprach damals auch, dass ein Bekannter der Familie in der Stadt lebte. Der Wechsel nach Salzburg war dadurch begründet, dass er näher bei seiner Familie sein wollte, die damals von einer unerwarteten Tragödie erschüttert wurde: Sein Onkel starb im Alter von nur 56 Jahren. „Ich habe mich in der österreichischen Stadt sehr wohl gefühlt und auch beruflich viel gelernt, aber mein Herz zog mich immer mehr zurück nach Győr. Auf Einladung von Chefarzt Szepesváry begann ich im November 2023 meine Arbeit im Petz-Krankenhaus, danach schloss ich erfolgreich die Habilitation in Salzburg ab und legte in Dresden die Facharztprüfung für Andrologie ab. Auch an die Universität Győr wurde er von Chefarzt Szepesváry empfohlen. „Es ist mir eine große Ehre, neben meiner Tätigkeit als Dozent an der Széchenyi István Universität auch das Amt des stellvertretenden Dekans für internationale Beziehungen an der Fakultät für Gesundheits- und Sportwissenschaften auszuüben. Ich bin der Universität auch dankbar, dass ich als Mentor am gemeinsamen Programm Catalyst Europe mit dem Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston teilnehmen darf. Auch im Bereich der Lehre versuche ich, meinen Beitrag zu leisten: Ich unterrichte Qualitätsmanagement im Rahmen der Ausbildung zum Gesundheitsmanager und war gleichzeitig an der Entwicklung mehrerer Lehrfächer beteiligt. Ich bemühe mich, die ideale Beziehung zwischen dem Krankenhaus und der Universität weiter zu stärken, die Zusammenarbeit in Lehre und Forschung zum gegenseitigen Nutzen auszuweiten und den Ruf der Universität auf internationaler Ebene zu festigen und weiter auszubauen. Er sieht seine Eltern als Vorbilder – seinen Vater auch beruflich –, aber er erinnert sich auch gerne an seine Lehrer. Er möchte jedoch keine Namen nennen, damit er niemanden vergisst. „Eine Ausnahme mache ich dennoch, denn ich erinnere mich bis heute an die Worte von Dr. János Kádár, der Innere Medizin unterrichtete, und mehr noch, ich befolge seinen Rat bis heute. Der Arzt des Szent László Krankenhauses sagte: Wir sollten unsere Kollegen immer kritisch betrachten und wenn wir etwas Positives sehen, sollten wir es übernehmen, aber wenn wir etwas Negatives feststellen, sollten wir versuchen, es zu vermeiden. Was sich sicher nicht ändern wird: Er will in Győr bleiben und hier eine Familie gründen. „Meine Freundin und ich sind kürzlich in die Innenstadt gezogen. Meine Partnerin, Dr. Bernadett Szakács, arbeitet als Juristin im Regierungsbüro des Komitats Győr-Moson-Sopron. Sie hat daneben auch eine Verbindung zur Széchenyi István Universität: Sie promoviert im Bereich Cybertechnologie mit Schwerpunkt auf digitalem Kinderschutz und unterrichtet außerdem Rechtswissenschaften im englischsprachigen Studiengang Gesundheitsmanagement.

PÉTER TÖRZSÖK RECEIVES THIS YEAR’S HEGEDÜS SCHOLARSHIP

A SNAPSHOT OF A MEDICAL CAREER

Dr. Péter Törzsök, urologist and andrologist, habilitated associate professor at the Faculty of Health and Sports Science of Széchenyi István University, and the faculty’s Deputy Dean for International Relations, has been awarded the Hegedüs Gyula Scientific Scholarship this year. According to the decision of the Board of Trustees of the Universitas-Győr Foundation, this distinction is granted to the university’s most talented and capable lecturers and researchers under the age of 45—supporting them in strengthening and advancing their scientific work and their progression toward becoming leading academics. The “diagnosis” of his medical career, however, is motivated by far more than the award itself: the exemplary professional and personal qualities associated with his name could well be described as a kind of “family tradition.”

We begin our story where Ferenc Jenő Kreszta opened his spice shop at the very start of the last century. The Kreszta House—with its narrow, tall, classicist façade and rounded corners facing three streets—is one of the most distinctive buildings in downtown Győr. Yet for our purposes, the house itself is not the focus, but rather one of its former residents. Karolin Kreszta was the great-grandmother of Dr. Péter Törzsök. “I am proud of my ancestors; it feels good to know that the Kreszta House once belonged to my family. Naturally, I have no personal memories connected to it, unlike my grandmother, for instance, who taught English and German at the Kazinczy Ferenc Secondary School in Győr. I had my first German lessons with her when I was six. Sadly, I could enjoy her teaching only for a short time, as she passed away soon after,” he recalls. My mother is a pharmacist, while my father—who passed away late last year—became well known as a senior urology specialist. I am one of four siblings. My older brother began studying architecture at Széchenyi István University but eventually graduated in Middlesbrough as an imaging and image-processing computer engineer. He now works in medical informatics. My older sister is a pathologist, while my youngest sister followed in our mother’s footsteps and works as a pharmacist. Péter tells us that he remains grateful to his parents for a childhood rooted in Győr-Ménfőcsanak, where he was raised to appreciate both sports and music. “We learned languages, we ran, we kayaked, we played the piano. I would like to raise my own children in a similar spirit. Sport is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, while music provides calm in a fast-paced world— and it can also bring joy to others. I experienced this myself: I started playing the guitar at the age of fourteen, and with the band I formed with my high-school classmates, we performed around 300 gigs.” The “academic journey” that eventually led Péter to Semmelweis University began at the primary school in Ménfőcsanak, where he studied for six years. He then moved on to Révai Miklós Secondary School at the same time as his older brother, spending another six years there. Although his father, Dr. Ferenc Törzsök, never pushed him toward a medical career, Péter never really considered any other path. “I would make the same choice today, because I am genuinely happy in my profession, despite the difficult moments. In my third year at Semmelweis University, through the Local Conference of Students’ Scientific Association (TDK), I began working on a joint topic in urology and pathology: bladder tumours. What I appreciate in my field is that, in addition to the operative side, it also has areas that require deeper knowledge and encouraged analytical thinking. I had no idea about this until I experienced it myself, because although my father often inquired from home about the condition of his patients, he never actually brought his work home. I admired that he always devoted his time to the family instead, and that he was active in community life—organising Rába River tours, serving as a district representative, helping with local publications, and even taking on roles in the parish. Without my mother’s support, all this would have been difficult, especially after my father became head physician of his department at the age of just 37. I can only imagine how demanding that must have been—for even though I am now a little older than he was then, if I were suddenly tasked with running a department of that size… I truly respected him for it, and also for the fact that when he began to feel worn out, after 25 years of leadership but before retiring, he chose to give space to a younger generation. This is how my current supervisor, Dr. Zsolt Jenő Szepesváry, came to Győr. I am very grateful to him for introducing laparoscopy here, and thanks also to Győr’s university, we have now reached the point where robotic surgery is available at our institution.” During our conversation, the question inevitably arises: how did Péter experience following in the footsteps of his father, a highly respected medical specialist? “It never caused frustration for me; in any case, my career path is somewhat different from his, partly because of the opportunities available today. One thing we do share is that he also spent some time in Germany, though only on a short professional study visit. We worked together in Győr for only a few months—he was already retired and assisting the department when I began working at the Petz Hospital. As I mentioned, his work was never a topic within the family, but once I entered the profession, we talked a great deal about difficult medical cases. He supported me without any trace of professional jealousy. I learned an enormous amount from him—and I know he was immensely proud of me.” As mentioned earlier, Péter Törzsök’s interest turned toward urology during his studies at Semmelweis University, where his work in the Students’ Scientific Association and later during his PhD focused on investigating new prognostic and diagnostic markers for bladder cancer. “During my specialist training, I worked at the University Clinic of Urology in Dresden and at the University Clinic of Urology and Andrology in Salzburg, and I obtained both the German and European board certifications in urology. During my years in Salzburg, I served first as deputy head and later as head of the testicular tumour, penile tumour, and kidney stone outpatient clinics, as well as of the urethral surgery and andrology outpatient units. In addition, I regularly substituted in other specialist clinics, including neuro-urology, kidney tumour, bladder tumour, and prostate tumour clinics. After passing my specialist exam, I became responsible for the endourology operating theatre in Salzburg, where I performed more than 900 ureterorenoscopies. Alongside urethral reconstruction and endourological surgery, I also practised microsurgery, and during this time I obtained a degree in healthcare management as well. My research interests shifted toward new diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities for testicular tumours, and I defended my habilitation on this topic at the Paracelsus Medical Private University in Salzburg.” It is perhaps worth adding a more personal note to the official story. His initial choice of choosing Dresden was influenced by the fact that a family acquaintance lived in the city at the time. The later move to Salzburg was motivated by his wish to be closer to his family, who had just been shaken by an unexpected tragedy: his uncle passed away at the age of only 56. “I felt very much at home in the Austrian city as well, and I learned a great deal professionally, but my heart increasingly pulled me back to Győr. At the invitation of Chief Physician Dr. Zsolt Jenő Szepesváry, I began working at the Petz Hospital in November 2023. Not long afterwards, I successfully completed my habilitation procedure in Salzburg, followed by passing the andrology specialist examination in Dresden.” His appointment to Széchenyi University also came through the recommendation of Chief Physician Szepesváry. “It is a great honour for me to serve not only as an associate professor at Széchenyi István University, but also as the Deputy Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences. I am grateful to the university as well for the opportunity to participate as a mentor in the Catalyst Europe programme, jointly run with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. I also strive to contribute actively to teaching: in the healthcare management programme I teach quality management, and I have been involved in developing several courses as well. My aim is to further strengthen the ideal relationship between the hospital and the university, to broaden our educational and research collaborations for mutual benefit, and to enhance and promote the university’s international reputation.” He has always regarded his parents as role models in life and, in his father’s case professionally as well, and he fondly remembers several of his university teachers. He prefers not to mention names, however, fearing he might accidentally leave someone out. “There is one exception I will make. I still remember the words of Dr. János Kádár, who taught internal medicine, and I continue to follow his advice to this day. As a physician of the Szent László Hospital, he said: always look at your colleagues with a critical eye; if you see something positive, adopt it, but if you notice something negative, make sure to avoid it.” There is one thing he is certain will not change: he wants to stay in Győr and start a family here. “My partner and I recently moved in together in the city centre, Dr. Bernadett Szakács, works as a lawyer at the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Government Office. She, too, has a connection to Széchenyi István University. She is pursuing her PhD in the area of cybertechnology with a focus on digital child protection, and she also teaches a law course in the English-language healthcare management programme.

Scientific Activities: He is the author or co-author of 35 peer-reviewed scientific publications, appearing in both international and Hungarian journals, primarily in the fields of urology and andrology. His current main research interests include testicular cancer, urolithiasis, health economics, and the evaluation of robotic surgery. Clinically, he mainly performs stone-removal procedures and endoscopic urological surgeries.
